Vertical File
Introduction
Vertical File > Introduction
The vertical file collection consists of filing cabinets of material too small to house on the shelves. The material in this collection is often in loose paper format, such as a completed family tree. The vertical files can be useful to see if we have a file of material on a particular family, locale or subject in which you are interested. Since these do not appear in our catalog, you can discover hidden treasures by searching our vertical files. The vertical files are divided into two sections: family histories and subject matter.
Family Histories
Vertical File > Family Histories
In addition to our collection of bound volumes of family histories, the vertical files contain numerous folders on various family histories and surnames. These files are arranged alphabetically by surname.
Subject Matter
Vertical File > Subject Matter
These files contain information on various subject matter topics and are arranged alphabetically, for example, from African American Genealogy to World War II. These files also contain numerous entries for geographic locations both in the U.S. and around the world.
