Welcome to the Health & Medical eGuide chapter on Drugs, where you will find drug information in a variety of formats. We have many resources to use at the Orange County Library System as well as online.
Let us begin our overview of resources covering Drugs starting with those found in books. The print collection on the subject may be found in Reference in the 615s.

For more than 50 years, doctors have relied upon the Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR) for the latest, most accurate drug information. The PDR contains data on over 4,000 drugs by brand and generic name, manufacturer and product categories. It also provides usage information and warnings, drug interactions, and more than 2,000 full-size, color photos cross referenced to the drug.
PDR for Herbal Medicines contains over 600 herbal medicines listed alphabetically by both the plant's scientific and common name. Because the Food and Drug Administration does not regulate herbal medicine, the findings of the German Regulatory Authority are reported.

The Complete Guide to Prescription & Nonprescription Drugs provides an easy-to-use chart format for quick access to data, guidelines to avoid dangerous interactions, information on dangerous side effects, warnings and vital data for safe use, and over 5,000 brand names and 800 generic names.

The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine is another general medicine resource written by doctors, nurses, and other health care workers who translate medical disorders, conditions, tests, and treatments into almost 1,500 easy-to-read articles of one to ten pages. This resource is available as a five volume set at the Orlando Public Library, or online (please see the E-book section of this chapter for additional details).

It gives consumers plain English explanations for the safe and effective use of prescription and nonprescription drugs that are consistent with the information professionals are referencing in the PDR.
